Deaf

Short Film/Drama, Spain 2021

Discover the short film that inspired Eva Libertad’s multi-award-winning film.

Ángela (34), a deaf woman, and Darío (37), her hearing partner, have decided to have a child. They live in a house in the countryside where they raise chickens, grow fruit trees and vegetables, and take care of four dogs. Today is the first time Ángela has taken a pregnancy test, and they’re both nervously awaiting the result. This award-winning short film was later expanded into Eva Libertad's acclaimed debut feature, Deaf (Sorda). Co-directed by Eva Libertad and Nuria Muñoz and starring Miriam Garlo, who reprises her role in the feature, it screened at more than 100 festivals worldwide and won over 70 awards. The feature received the Panorama Audience Award at the Berlinale and multiple Goya Awards, while Garlo became the first deaf actress to receive a Goya Award for her performance.
